Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II

Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II, known in private life as Madam Pearl Bansa was born on 7th October 1941 to Mr. Ben K. Bansa and Mrs. Nora Jane Bansa of the Amega Kofi Royal family of Peki Blengo.

 

Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II had her elementary education at Blengo Primary school and later acquired her ‘O’ Level Certificate in Achimota Secondary School from 1955 to 1959.

 

In 1964, she acquired her State Registered Nurse (SRN) Certificate at the St. Alfeges hospital in London. She followed this up by acquiring her State Certified Midwifery (SCM) Certificate in 1965 at the Gables Maternity Hospital, Peterborough, England.

  • Mamaga worked as an SRN/Midwife at the National Hospital, London from 1965 to 1966.
  • She continued to Parkinson Howard Hospital, Tema as a Senior Nurse, In-Charge from 1967 to1969.
  • From 1969 to 2000, Mamaga worked as a Senior Shift Nursing Officer at the VALCO Hospital in Tema.

 

Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II was enstooled as Paramount Queenmother of Peki Traditional area in 1981. She is the Founder and First president of the Volta region Queen mothers' Association.

 

At the National level, Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II has served in various capacities. Notable amongst them are the following:

  • Mamaga was the Vice Chairperson for the National Population Council from October 1997 to the year 2000.
  • She was also a Member of the Legal Pluralism Policy Forum, Family Law (Attorney General’s Department/GTZ) from April 2002 to 2005.
  • From the year 2007 to 2013, Mamaga served as the 1st National President of National Council of Women Traditional Leaders, Ghana (NCWTL)
  • From March 2003 to 2008, Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II served as an Executive Member on the Presidential Advisory Commission on Chieftaincy Affairs. Within the same period, she also served as a Member of the Technical Committee, World Bank Project with Judicial Service (Strengthening Adjudicative Capacity of Chiefs).

 

TRAINING & CERTIFICATION

  • From June to September 2000, Mamaga took an Institution Building (Management) Course at the Centre for Development on Population Activities (CEDPA), Washington, USA.
  • She followed this up from February 2005 to April 2007 with a 3-year Modular Course for National Council of Traditional Leaders, UCC-CDS/CIKOD.
  • In August 2006, Mamaga went for a training program on Management, Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and Gender Perspective at the West African Dispute Resolution Centre (WADREC).
  • From October to November 2006, Mamaga tool a Paralegal Training program on Promoting Access to Justice in Ghana for women. This program was organized by GTZ/WILAD.
  • Mamaga Amega Kofi Bra II in May 2007 participated in WILAD/UNESCO Capacity Building program on Peace and Conflict Resolution.
